Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak’s wish to offer prayer at the historic Jama Masjid here on January 26 remained unfulfilled.

‘Clash in schedule ’

“We had made all arrangements to welcome the Malaysian Prime Minister but at the last moment it was conveyed to us that he is not coming. He was scheduled to visit Jama Masjid to offer prayer on Friday at 12.35 p.m. but the timing clashed with the schedule of the Republic Day Parade. Mr. Razak had some other engagements also to attend to before leaving the country,” said Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari.

The Malaysian delegation was part of the ASEAN group of countries that were the chief guests for the 69th Republic Day on Friday.

A Delhi Police officer said that they had reviewed the security status and submitted the report for further clearance from other concerned authorities.

During his visit to India, Mr. Razak had expressed the desire to offer Friday prayer at Jama Masjid along with other members of his delegation.
