Low intensity tremors in Odisha

: Tremors were felt in many parts of Odisha on Saturday following a powerful earthquake, with epicentre in Nepal.

According to Odisha Relief Commissioner, there has been no report of casualty and damage of property in the State.

At around 11.41 a.m. on Saturday, tremors were felt mainly in coastal districts such as Cuttack, Kendrapara, Ganjam, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak and Khurda.

“An earthquake of great intensity with magnitude 7.5 on the Richter scale occurred at 11.41 hours on Saturday with its epicentre at latitude 28.10 North and longitude 84.60 East in Nepal. The epicentre of the earthquake is at a distance of 875 km from Bhubaneswar in the direction of North-North-West. The earthquake is felt in most parts of Odisha,” said a bulletin issued by Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre (BMC) here.

Director-in-charge of BMC, S.C. Sahu said the intensity of the earthquake in Odisha could be about two on Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale (MIMI) in comparison to 11 in Nepal.
