On Thursday, the demand for power in the Capital climbed to 4,611 MW which is the highest for this year so far and 110 MW more than the demand during the corresponding period last year.
This demand for power was met with rotational load-shedding as Delhi’s supply has been curtailed by 600 MW on account of technical snags.
According to Power Department sources, snags were reported at Dadri Thermal 2 and Badarpur Thermal Power Station (BTPS), which led to the reduction in supply. While Dadri Thermal 2 developed a snag late on Wednesday night, BTPS developed it on Thursday morning. “One unit of Dadri Thermal 2 – generating 510 MW – is down due to a snag. Of this, 80 per cent electricity is supplied to Delhi. One unit of BTPS – generating around 210 MW is also down,” said a source.
Discoms have been asked to arrange additional electricity and ensure minimal power cuts.
