Workers of the Lok Janshakti Party workers staged a rally at Jantar Mantar here on Monday demanding that the Ranganath Mishra Commission’s recommendations on reservation for minorities in employment, higher education and economic and developmental schemes funded by the government be implemented.
Addressing the gathering, LJP president Ram Vilas Paswan said that commissions and their recommendations were not being taken seriously by governments.
“Reports prepared by the Sri Krishna Commission, Nanavati Commission and now Ranganath Mishra Commission are gathering dust. There is no indication that these reports would be implemented. People have lost hope in getting any justice through such commissions.”
Mr. Paswan said in future only judicial inquiry by sitting judges with provisions of enforceability of recommendations should be made.
In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister, the LJP demanded that the Government table the report in the ongoing session of Parliament and implement its recommendations.
“As has been brought out by the high-level Sachar Committee, the socio-economic condition of minorities, particularly the Muslims, has been continuously deteriorating since Independence. The condition of Muslims in certain aspects was now comparable with those of Scheduled Castes,” said the memorandum.
The party has threatened to launch a mass movement and gherao Parliament during its next Budget session if the government did not agree to implement the Ranganath Mishra Commission’s recommendations.
