A 30-year-old linesman was killed while undertaking repairs in south Delhi’s R.K. Puram on Friday evening.

The incident happened when Arjun, a native of U.P.’s Bijnor, fell off an electric pole while repairing wires. He was looking into a complaint lodged by the locals. “The reason behind his death — whether he was electrocuted or died after the fall — will be established after the autopsy report is received,” said a senior police officer.

Arjun, who had been hired on contract was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he was declared brought dead.

One of Arjun’s colleagues said on condition of anonymity that BSES had been careless. “Usually, a linesman is sent with three helpers, but Arjun had only one,” he said, adding that his wife and two children should be compensated for the loss.

The BSES, which called the incident unfortunate, said an inquiry has been initiated. “The case is being investigated by our internal Accident Enquiry Committee,” it said in a statement. The police have registered a case on charges of causing death due to negligence.
