Delhi Shiromani Akali Dal president Manjit Singh G. K. on Friday lauded the decision of Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna to curtail the powers of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee from November 8 in view of the next elections of the panel due in May 2012.
In a statement, Mr. Singh said since the decision has now been taken to hold the elections to the committee in May next year, the existing committee would only play the role of a caretaker from November 8. The term of the present committee had expired on February 8, 2011, he added.
Mr Singh said earlier a delegation comprising SAD national general secretary Avtar Singh Hit, Committee member and chief general secretary of Delhi unit Kuldip Singh Bhogal, SAD youth wing president Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Delhi Committee member Harvinder Singh K.P. had met the Lieutenant-Governor to make a representation in this regard.
The SAD Delhi unit president said the existing committee would be allowed to spend on items of daily use but not on anything extra.
At the same time, he said in the education and other institutions being run by DSGMC there would be no fresh appointments, promotions, starting of new projects or new contracts for buildings.
