An adult leopard was found dead in Badshahpur here on Sunday. Forest officials said it seemed to be a case of natural death.
A territorial team of Gurgaon Forest Department was conducting a routine check in the Aravallis when it spotted the carcass at Gairatpur Bass village around 10 a.m. The matter was reported to the senior officials and a Wildlife Department team was also despatched to the spot.
“The rear part of the animal was badly decomposed. Though the exact age could be ascertained after the post-mortem report is procured, it appears to be an adult. There were no injury marks on the body and it seems to be a case of natural death. The carcass was cremated in the presence of three gazetted officers as per the law after the post-mortem,” District Forest Officer, Gurgaon, Raj Bhatia said.
Mr. Bhatia said that it was difficult to say whether it was a male or female leopard as the body was badly decomposed.
Seven leopards have been reported dead, including the present case, due to different reasons during the past two years in Gurgaon. While two died in road accidents, four carcasses were found in Golf Course in Manesar in suspected cases of poisoning.
