A four-year-old male leopard was found dead in a mining pit in the Aravallis in Nuh on Friday. Wildlife officials suspect it fell in the pit while chasing its prey.
Conservator of Forests (South Circle) Vinod Kumar said the leopard’s fall trajectory was indicated by bloodstains on rocks above the area where it was found dead. He said the leopard probably fell from a height of over 100 feet and had external injuries on the head and front left leg.
The matter came to light when a shepherd noticed the leopard lying dead in a pit and informed the villagers. Mr. Kumar said they received a call around 4 p.m. and sent a team of five members, including a veterinarian. Mr. Kumar ruled out the possibility of the animal having got injured during a fight over territory. He said the post-mortem will be conducted on Saturday.
