Enraged over a 30-year-old woman from the Northeast getting a molestation case registered against a lawyer, a group of advocates assaulted her at the Tis Hazari Court here on Friday.

The first incident took place around 10 p.m. on Thursday when the victim, who hails from Nagaland, was waiting for a bus near Vishwavidyalaya metro station. The accused, a lawyer at Tis Hazari court, arrived there and allegedly passed some lewd remarks. When she objected, he molested her. The woman raised an alarm and the accused was overpowered by some locals. The police was informed and the handed over to them.

Following this, the accused was produced at the Tis Hazari Court around 4 p.m. The victim was also present there to record her statement before a Magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Allegedly angered over her approaching the police, the advocates also assaulted a friend who was accompanying her.

“Even her lawyers were threatened. One of them was even slapped. They were chased out of the court premises,” said a source close to the victim.

The victim approached the police again late on Friday night. A case has been registered at the Subzi Mandi police station.
