Laid-off man held for cheating

A 28-year-old man, who allegedly cheated a drug store owner of Rs.8 lakh, has been arrested at Malviya Nagar in South Delhi. The company, on whose behalf the accused earlier collected money from its clients, had expelled him from service as part of cost-cutting exercise.

The police received a complaint from Vijay B. Bhalla, proprietor of a drug store owner at a hospital in Sheikh Sarai-II. “He recently received a call from a person identifying himself as a representative of a company through which he deposited money in a bank account. The accused collected the money ,” said a police officer.

The police identified the accused as one Rajiv Kumar Verma. “We recovered Rs.7.96 lakh from him,” said the officer.
