A case has been registered, said the police.

Shot accidentally

Preliminary probe has revealed that the target of the assailant in a car was a pedestrian on the footpath.

However, the bullet hit the victim accidentally. Kaikeyi was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Financial issues

The incident came to light during the early hours of Friday, when the police were informed that a man sleeping on a footpath had been shot by an unidentified person. The shooter was allegedly trying to eliminate his betting partner over financial issues.

The police have sent the body for autopsy, following which it will be handed over to the family. The police are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the car and the accused.
