Lab technician held for molesting patient

April 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:38 am IST - NEW DELHI/GURGAON:

A 30-year-old laboratory technician at Columbia Asia Hospital in Palam Vihar was arrested on Thursday for allegedly molesting a woman patient.

The 25-year-old woman and her husband had gone to the hospital for a blood test when the incident took place.

“The technician asked my wife to sit inside a room and drew the curtains. He then asked me to get a separate slip for my blood test. While I was standing in the queue to get the slip, my wife came running to me and said the technician had touched her inappropriately,” the victim’s husband said.

He then called the police and also informed his family, who resides at the nearby Carterpuri village.

Soon, a large number of villagers gathered outside the hospital and demanded that the accused be handed over to them.

“There have been complaints against him earlier as well. He should be handed over to the villagers for instant justice,” said one of the agitated villagers.

The villagers also tried to block the traffic on the road outside the hospital, but were persuaded by the police not to do so. The accused has been identified as Bharat Kukreja, a resident of Janakpuri in Delhi. He had joined the hospital a month ago.

Necessary action

“We are supporting the police in the investigation. We shall take necessary action accordingly. Columbia Asia Hospital stands committed to patient rights and ethical behaviour and will not accept any deviation in the same,” said Mahipal Singh Bhanot, general manager, Columbia Asia Hospital.
