Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal on Monday reviewed the progress of Swachhta initiatives being undertaken by the three municipal corporations of Delhi at a regular fortnightly meeting.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Urban Development), Principal Commissioner, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Commissioner, South Delhi civic body, Commissioner, East Delhi civic body and CEO, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) among other senior officials.
“The L-G was apprised about the measures taken regarding open defecation-free initiatives, disposal and management of silt, public toilets, general cleanliness, sanitation, re-development of markets, beautification under flyovers and similar important issues of MCDs in Delhi,” Raj Niwas said in a statement.
According to Raj Niwas, the L-G was informed that all municipal corporations had notified themselves as open defecation-free and he desired that all public toilets under all the municipal corporations be completed and ready for public use.

Mr. Baijal stressed that proper lighting arrangement be ensured in and around all toilets complexes and sewerage water connection to toilets should be ensured in addition to advising the MCD Commissioners to develop a common mobile app to monitor any deficiencies in Swachhta initiatives.
“For mechanical sweeping of roads and solid waste management, the L-G directed that all work relating to it be completed within eight months for which purpose they should come up with milestones and prepare a bar charts,” the statement said. The L-G was informed that the South Delhi body had re-developed 45 markets, while the east body and north body were also in the process of developing markets in their areas.
