L-G orders proper lighting of toilet complexes

Baijal reviews progress of sanitation, beautification work done by civic bodies

Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal reviewed the progress of sanitation and beautification works being carried out by the civic bodies in Delhi on Monday and directed them to ensure proper lighting of toilets complexes and public parks.

At the fortnightly meeting, the three commissioners of the civic bodies apprised the L-G about measures being taken regarding cleanliness, sanitation, redevelopment of markets and other important issues facing them.

“Regarding the use of toilets in restaurants, including those at petrol pumps, the L-G was informed that all toilet facilities have been made available free of charge to women and children. The L-G was also informed about the steps taken for proper lighting in and around the toilets complexes,” Raj Niwas said in a statement.

The L-G has asked the commissioners to send a weekly progress report to the Principal Secretary (UD) regarding proper lighting of toilet complexes.

Work under flyovers

Mr. Baijal was also informed about the status of the redevelopment of markets.

According to the east civic body commissioner, steps are being taken for the re-development of four markets, the south civic body commissioner confirmed that work on 27 big and medium markets had been completed and work in 21 small markets was in progress.

“The L-G was informed that the east civic body will be completing beautification under two flyovers by mid-January 2018. Progress on encroachment removal on 29 stretches was also reviewed with the L-G emphasising that places being made encroachment-free should not be allowed to be re-encroached,” the statement read.
