Students of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences’ (AIIMS) nursing school on Wednesday demanded that a first information report be registered against the teachers accused of driving their classmate Pallavi Grover to commit suicide.

The 21-year-old nursing student hanged herself in her hostel room on Sunday after what family and friends said was prolonged harassment by two teachers.

On Wednesday, over a hundred students protested at Jantar Mantar here to demand justice for Pallavi. They raised slogans against one of the accused teachers, who is also the deputy superintendent of the hostel.

A member of the students’ union said: “We have all faced nagging and harassment. Pallavi wasn’t depressed like it is being claimed. She just couldn’t take it anymore.”

As the Grover family joined the protesters, students chanted: “We are not useless”, referring to a taunt the superintendent allegedly aimed at Pallavi.

Her brother Lucky Grover said the police has refused to file an FIR against the two teachers. “We just want them to terminate the services of the two teachers and file an FIR against them,” he added.

He said the family will fight till the teachers are prosecuted for torturing the third-year student. “We had collected money for her wedding… now we will use that to fight the case,” said Mr. Grover.
