Kejriwal’s first Janata Durbar outside Delhi Secretariat

Plans afoot to make the grievance redressal meeting a weekly affair

January 11, 2014 05:05 am | Updated November 16, 2021 06:04 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Government has made elaborate arrangements for the first Janata Durbar of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal outside Delhi Secretariat on Saturday.

With the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers deciding to sit on the road outside the Secretariat to redress public grievances, officials from the general administration department, Chief Minister’s office and those from the security agencies were busy through the day giving final touches to the logistics being put for it.

“One carriageway of the road would be used for holding the public grievance meeting. Separate sitting arrangements for the Chief Minister and the six Ministers along with the department officials concerned is being made in a separate enclosure. Apart from that, several help desks are also being put up. The help desks would function as a gateway for the screening of complaints and accordingly directing the complainants to the Chief Minister and other Ministers,” said an official.

Expecting a huge turnout, the department officials have made arrangements for six mobile toilets and water tankers. With one carriageway being used for regular public meetings, the officials said, traffic outside the Secretariat would be regulated via the other carriageway.

“Broader arrangements would be in place as the meeting has to be held regularly. However, the road would be opened for public during the day once the meeting is over,” said an official.

While Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Cabinet colleagues would be attending an open public grievance meeting every Saturday outside Delhi Secretariat in order to redress grievances of the common man and take decisions over their complaints on the spot, on week days, one of the six Cabinet Ministers would take turns to hold a similar meeting outside the Secretariat every morning from 9-30 a.m. to 11 a.m. to address issues of the people on a day-to-day basis.
