Kejriwal trolled yet again

Twitterati backfires after the CM poses questions to Modi

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has yet again become the victim of trolls on microblogging site Twitter. He posted a photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked the latter if he was advertising on behalf of Ola (app-based cab) and Reliance. The photo was of the PM riding an e-rickshaw which had logos of both the companies. Twitterati, however, backfired. Somebody posted a picture of Mr. Kejriwal having paan along with his Cabinet colleague Manish Sisodia and AAP leader Ashutosh, and asked the CM if he was promoting cancer-causing gutka and paan masala . Another picture of Mr. Kejriwal standing alongside his blue Wagon R had people asking him if he was promoting Maruti Suzuki.

With reshuffle in duties under every new regime comes the issue of office space crunch in the Delhi Police. Under Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma, the situation is no different in the PWD building which serves as the Headquarters of both departments. This time round, a recently appointed Special Commissioner has been forced to work from the Old Police Lines as the responsibilities of the unit have been split, meaning his predecessor still retains the old office. Another recently promoted Special CP is working from the same office he did as a Joint CP. It was also after Mr. Verma taking over that Special CP (Vigilance) was brought back to PHQ from the vigilance office at Barakhamba Road. Then there are some special CPs who, despite being transferred, have not vacated their offices in Delhi. The result: more officers and fewer offices again.

A bullet which was surgically removed from Transport Minister Gopal Rai’s neck here earlier this week now belongs to the Lucknow Police.

Mr. Rai was operated upon at the Apollo Hospital here on Friday after complaining of giddiness found to have been triggered by the bullet which dates to his student politics days in the 90s.

“He sustained the injury while participating in an agitation for the decriminalisation of student politics on the Lucknow University campus in 1999; the bullet forms part of the investigation in a case which was lodged in relation to the incident back then,” a source said.

“So, the bullet has been preserved here, and the Lucknow Police have been asked to collect it for the furtherance of the probe,” the source added.

With the Delhi High Court reserving its judgment on two writ petitions challenging the preliminary examination of Delhi Judicial Service (DJS) for 2015, the main written exam scheduled to be held on May 14 and 15 has been put on hold. The DJS examination is held for recruitment of Civil Judges and Metropolitan Magistrates in the Capital.

The writ petitions filed by unsuccessful candidates have alleged that the question paper contained “ambiguous questions”.

They have sought quashing of answer keys and awarding of marks for questions that could have more than one answer. Interestingly, the High Court itself had invited objections after releasing the answer key and acknowledged certain errors. It later issued a revised key, which revealed ambiguities in as many as 13 questions, according to one of the petitioners, Sumit Kumar.

A public notice released by the High Court last week stated that the DJS main written examination was being postponed in view of pendency of the two cases and the next dates for the exam would be notified later.

A Division Bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Najmi Waziri had found a “fundamental flaw” in questions set out in the DJS examination paper.

Fed up with senior officials coming in late, the Commissioner of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation, Mohanjeet Singh, has asked all heads of departments to register their attendance online.

The Commissioner took up the issue in his weekly review meeting on Tuesday. The IT staff was asked to come up with a website for the HODs to log in and log out when they enter office and when they leave. The Commissioner also ordered staff of the Engineering Department to be stationed at the Ghazipur landfill to monitor conditions.
