Kejriwal mocks NDA’s ‘justice system’, seeks BJP MP’s arrest

June 22, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 01:13 pm IST - New Delhi:

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday refused BJP MP Maheish Girri’s demand of having an ‘open debate’ in the murder case of NDMC officer M.M. Khan.

Mr. Kejriwal told the media that the NDA regime’s criminal justice system allows a person to commit the crime and then sit in protest outside his residence.

“Is there an open debate in a murder case? Is this the criminal justice system of the BJP. I think this is the message of the Modi government: that anyone who commits a murder should come and sit in protest in front of Kejriwal’s residence and then the big BJP leaders will come to support the accused,” the CM said.

“The police should arrest and interrogate him (Girri) as to what relation he had with the prime accused. It is the duty of the police to arrest and then start the investigation, but they are unable to do that, because of the pressure from the BJP,” he said.

‘Strike is a drama’

The BJP lawmaker from East Delhi has been sitting on a hunger strike since Sunday with posters challenging Mr. Kejriwal to a debate.

Meanwhile, the AAP called Mr. Girri’s strike outside the CM’s residence a “drama” and alleged that the Delhi Police is “shielding” him in the murder case.

“Mr. Girri should refrain from doing nautanki (drama) by staging a hunger strike outside Mr. Kejriwal’s residence. Unless he is arrested and questioned by the police, there can be no talk of his innocence,” Delhi AAP convenor Dilip Pandey said.

He asserted that both Mr. Girri and New Delhi Municipal Council vice-chairman Karan Singh Tanwar were given a clean chit as the police was “shielding” them.

“Modiji’s police is shielding them. If the police were under the Delhi government, both Mr. Girri and Mr. Tanwar would be in jail,” Mr. Pandey said.

He alleged that Mr. Girri “accompanied” Ramesh Kakkar (accused in Khan’s murder case) to the L-G’s office in connection with the latter’s hotel lease, which was to be decided by Mr. Khan.

“The truth will come out with the arrest of the BJP MP as he was seen standing with a dishonest and now killer (man) by writing a letter in his favour,” Mr. Pandey said.

The BJP is setting a new “trend” of adopting this “tactic” of staging dharna at Mr. Kejriwal’s residence by those who have committed a wrong, Mr. Pandey claimed.
