A juvenile allegedly stabbed his father to death at their flat in Outer Delhi’s Rohini late on Sunday night. He was reportedly upset with his father because he used to ill-treat his mother.

According to the police, the incident took place in Sardar Colony at Sector-16 Rohini around 11.30 p.m. on Sunday.

At around 10 p.m. on Sunday, the police said the boy’s father, who was an auto rickshaw driver, returned home in an inebriated condition and began fighting with his wife.

The wife lodged a complaint with the police and the couple was taken to a police station. Around 11 p.m., after giving a strict warning to the auto-rickshaw driver, the police allowed the couple to go home.

“While the woman went home, the auto rickshaw driver went somewhere else and again consumed alcohol. He returned home and began thrashing his wife,” added the officer.

The minor, on the night of the incident, had retired to his room along with his sister and brother. Moments later he heard his mother crying and when he came out of his room he found his father beating his mother.

“The minor then proceeded to his parents room and took out a kirpan [dagger]. He stabbed his father in the stomach,” said the officer. The mother was shocked to see what had happened and raised an alarm.

“Hearing the boy’s mother cry, the neighbours gathered at their flat only to find the man lying in a pool of blood,” the officer added. Meanwhile, the juvenile ran and hid himself in a local gurdwara.

One of the neighbours made a call to the Police Control Room and a police team was dispatched to the spot. The victim was rushed to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital where he died during treatment in the early hours of Monday.

The teenager, a Class IX student at a local government school, was apprehended later in the night from near a gurdwara and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board from where he was sent to a juvenile correction home for boys.

“The boy confessed to his crime and claimed that if he had not killed his father, the latter would have strangled his mother,” a senior police officer said.

According to the family, the deceased was an alcoholic and would often return home in an inebriated condition. “The minor told us that his father would often come home late and thrash his wife right in front him and his siblings,” said a police officer.
