Students from various universities, including the Jawaharlal Nehru University, protesting in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union joined students from Lucknow University, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Allahabad University and Panjab University to take out a protest in front of the Union Human Resource Ministry here on Wednesday. They were condemning police crackdown on BHU students, who were carrying out peaceful protests demanding students’ union elections a few days ago.

“We demand that normalcy be restored in BHU campus and all democratic rights of students like freedom of association, debate and discussions, to hold meetings and seminars, and full students’ union elections, which were denied for a long time, be ensured. Students who were protesting for the long-denied students’ union elections must not be victimised in any manner. All cases against protesting students be withdrawn, hostel facilities be restored, medical care for the injured students be given and no student should suffer on the eve of their semester examination,” said JNUSU president Ashutosh Kumar.

Students from Allahabad University shared their experiences during the recently-concluded AUSU elections like the brazen display of money and muscle power and how the University administration didn’t do anything.
