The Jawaharlal Nehru Students’ Union (JNUSU) has filed a complaint against Twitter users allegedly close to Right-wing organisations for “abusing” JNU via their tweets on April 30.

‘baseless posts’

“We have filed a complaint against some Twitter users for defaming JNU and publishing baseless posts about JNU. We have submitted our complaints to the Delhi Commission for Women and Cyber Crime Investigation Cell,” said JNUSU president Mohit Pandey.

He added that they would also write to the National Commission for Women and also try to meet its chairperson to register the complaint.

The JNUSU also requested the university’s Gender Sensitisation Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH) and the Vice-Chancellor to take serious note of the “baseless defamatory statements” and take strong action against those posting them.

Condemning Maoist violence at Sukma and paying homage to CRPF personnel who lost their lives in the attack, the JNUSU said it was a pity that the martyrdom of the soldiers was being used as a tool for mudslinging by certain Right-wing websites running “fake” news to defame JNU.

‘Red herrings’

“Whenever such incidents happen and the nation demands sensitive deliberation from us, the RSS creates some incidents as red herrings. This time, the attempt is to divert attention from the condition of soldiers in the CRPF,” added the JNUSU statement.
