The JNU administration has lodged an FIR against a group of students who have been occupying the Administration Block on campus for the last one week. The students have not allowed over 250 staff to enter the building.

‘Will continue talks’

JNU Vice-Chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar said on Friday that they would continue to talk to the students and reason with them. Earlier this week, he had said if the students do not vacate the building, law would take its own course.

Police complaint

The police confirmed receiving a complaint from the JNU chief security officer. “The complaint alleged that 14 student leaders and some 40-50 students have wrongfully restrained officials from performing their duties. An FIR has been registered at Vasant Kunj north police station on February 15 under various sections of the IPC,” said ACP (South) 1, Chinmoy Biswal.

The JNU Students’ Union on Friday organised a human chain on campus to mark their protest against “the V-C’s full-blown design to shut down the university”.

JNU Teachers’ Association president Ayesha Kidwai said the V-C had on Thursday claimed that the amended admission rules will not be retrospectively implemented and students currently enrolled will not suffer, but on Friday a JNU administration notice contradicted the statement and the past batches are back in jeopardy. JNU on Friday issued a circular to all the departments directing them to “re-calculate” the possible intake of students in M.Phil and Ph.D courses under each faculty member.
