March 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:36 am IST - New Delhi:

A 27-year-old Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawan had to pay with his life when he refused to give money to a vagabond, who then stabbed him to death in Connaught Place.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Monday when the victim, identified as Selvaraj, who was posted as a constable with the 48th battalion in Kashmir, took an auto from the New Delhi railway station to catch a connecting train from the Old Delhi railway station to join his duty on Tuesday.

“He asked the driver of the auto-rickshaw to pull over at a spot on Shaheed Bhagat Singh Marg and gave him some money to buy him some snacks for the journey. Meanwhile, a vagabond approached Selvaraj and asked him for some money to buy liquor. When he refused, he suddenly attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon and stabbed him thrice in the abdomen,” said a police official. — PTI
