Jamia Millia Islamia’s official website was defaced on Monday night and restored only on Tuesday morning, the Registrar said.

The landing page of the website flashed a message — “Happy Birthday Pooja” — on black background.

Registrar A.P. Siddiqui said, “The website was hacked at midnight and was restored by [Tuesday] morning. It is outsourced and the server is also located outside campus. We got in touch with those managing it and had it restored.”

He said it is a sensitive time for the website since the online admission process is on and entrance test results are being declared. “To prevent such attempts to hack the website, we are looking to see what legal action can be taken so that such an incident does not occur again. We will take measures to strengthen it technically as well,” he said.

In the past, websites of many educational institutions, including IIT-Delhi and Delhi University, were defaced.
