The Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research (CNESPR) at Jamia Millia Islamia has received a grant of Rs.2.94 crore, to be rendered over a period of five years, from the Shillong-based North Eastern Council (NEC).

MoU signed

As per a Memorandum of Understanding between the centre and the council, the CNESPR will obtain financial assistance to conduct research on migration, gender, state and civil society, disaster management and other similar matters of concern in the north-east region. The MoU was signed by Jamia Registrar A. P. Siddiqui and NEC HRD & E director Siile Anthony.

“Think tank”

Set up in 2009, the CNESPR has been a “think tank” for the academic community and is actively involved in organising events for highlighting major issues faced by the north-east.

Meanwhile, the NEC facilitates socio-economic development for residents of NER through monetary aids to several projects and schemes.

This upgradation is sought to enhance research studies at the centre.
