As rain led to waterlogging across the city on Wednesday, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satyendar Jain carried out surprise inspections of roads and drains on the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road.

Mr. Jain was accompanied by Deoli MLA Prakash Jarwal and senior department officials.

Unauthorised colony

Mr. Jarwal said that water from nearby Sangam Vihar collects on M.B. Road every year when it rains as the unauthorised colony lacks a proper drainage system.

This year, however, he said the government had begun work on laying a drainage system.

“The work has been going on for about three months. The Minister ordered that it should be completed in a week. The laying of a trunk sewer for Sangam Vihar would be the next step to stop the waterlogging,” Mr. Jarwal said.

According to PWD officials, several roads maintained by the department as well as those under the jurisdiction of the municipal corporations witnessed waterlogging on Wednesday.

Sources said that surprise inspections by Ministers and even Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal would continue throughout the monsoon.
