‘Jail Training School has inadequate infrastructure’

The only ‘Jail Training School’ of Odisha situated in Berhampur faces lack of proper infrastructure.

The School was established in 1984 for training of prison personnel of the State. According to authorities of the institution at that time it was the third such institute in India. On Monday, passing out parade of 44th and 45th batches of newly-recruited jail warders was held on its campus. Additional Director-General of police cum inspector general of prison Pradeep Kapur took the salute at the parade.

But infrastructure at this School needs improvement. Principal of the institute Biswabhanu Patnaik accepted that the trainees are being trained with outdated weapons. They have outdated muskets and .303 rifles while criminals have started using automatic weapons. Due to funds crunch, some times trainees are unable get driving training.
