Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta on Tuesday termed the failure of the Delhi government to get a Presidential assent to the Office of Profit Bill for 21 AAP MLAs a “moral defeat” for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and demanded his resignation.

“Rejection of the Office of Profit Bill by the President, which was aimed at regularising appointment of 21 AAP MLAs as parliamentary secretaries and the admission of Rs. 400 crore tanker scam by the government are moral defeats for Kejriwal. He should step down from his post,” Mr. Gupta said.

The AAP government was left with “no option”, but to seek resignation from all the 21 MLAs, who were appointed parliamentary secretaries to the Delhi ministers, Mr. Gupta added.

Alleging that the Kejriwal-led government “sat over” Rs. 400-crore tanker scam for 11 months, the senior BJP leader said it was an example of corruption.

“The fact-finding committee submitted its report to the Delhi government on July 15, 2015 and still the CM did nothing to file an FIR with the Anti-Corruption branch (ACB) or the CBI,” he said.

The Delhi government had on Monday recommended a probe either by the CBI or the ACB against former CM Sheila Dikshit in connection with the scam.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP general secretary Ashish Sood attacked Mr. Kejriwal for his comments against L-G Najeeb Jung.

“Kejriwal’s comments about the L-G show his anarchism towards constitutional dignity as well as his mental illness,” Mr. Sood said. Mr. Kejriwal had on Monday accused Mr. Jung of creating “obstacles” before his government at the “behest” of PM Modi. He also said that the L-G would never be made the Vice President of India by the Centre.
