: The ITO-Kashmere Gate section of Delhi Metro’s ‘heritage corridor’ is likely to become operational by November after the conclusion of trial runs starting August, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said on Tuesday.

The DMRC had initially planned to throw open the remaining section of the 9 km-long metro corridor, whose Mandi House-ITO part is operational, by October and had later advanced the deadline to August.

Constructing the completely underground corridor has been extremely challenging as the areas above are densely populated, officials said.

“The line will be opened for the public after successful completion of trials and necessary safety certification,” a DMRC spokesperson said.

The corridor derives its heritage value from the fact that it passes under areas of the walled city, such as Delhi Gate, Jama Masjid and Red Fort. - PTI
