A welfare exhibition showcasing stalls from field units and formations of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was inaugurated by Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Kumari Selja in the Capital on Sunday.
In her inaugural speech, Ms. Selja commended Himveer Wives’ Welfare Association (HWWA), the welfare arm of the ITBP. She congratulated the association for showcasing rare products and culture of the remote Himalayan region in the exhibition.
Skills of ITBP families
The exhibition showcases the skills of ITBP families and welfare activities undertaken by the association and the ITBP.
The products on display have been prepared and manufactured in welfare centres of the battalions located all over the country.
The proceeds from the exhibition will be utilised for the welfare of the force personnel.
Products
The products include carpets, shawls, herbal products, cane furniture, chikan embroidery, Chanderi saris and wood carvings.
HWWA president Nikhat Mahboob said the association contributes in its own way to make the lives of the force personnel and their families more meaningful.
The HWWA works for the welfare of the families of the force personnel with a specific focus on women empowerment and trains families in food processing, tailoring, weaving, stitching, beautician courses, home management, computer training, yoga classes, embroidery, pattern making, painting and child care.
Rehabilitation
The association also works for rehabilitation of the families of martyred force personnel and soldiers disabled during border guarding duties and operations against anti-national elements.
