The Delhi Police arrested seven persons on Friday for allegedly running a gambling racket in a resto-bar in north-west Delhi’s Ashok Vihar.

Around 8 p.m. on Friday, the police received information that some people were allegedly betting online in a resto-bar while an IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians was under way.

A raid was conducted on the premises, and the accused— Narinder Bansiwal (30), Anuj Sharma (26), Sahil Gupta (28), Sanchit Mittal (22), Rishal Nirmal (26), Ashutosh Sharma (27) and Sushant Sharma (29)— were arrested.

Mr. Bansiwal was the manager of the resto-bar.

Phones seized

Eight mobile phones, a TV set, three DVDs and a register containing the details of the betting were also seized.

The accused told the police that they had indulged in gambling to earn quick money. “They also said that the restaurant owner was aware of the racket and the items needed for gambling would be provided by the staff,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere.
