Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday said the spread of education has helped an increasing number of girls to emerge at the forefront in every field. “As a result, more human resources are available to the country,” she added.
Speaking at the Sixth Convocation of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University here, the Delhi Chief Minister said harnessing of woman power would speed up development and growth of society and also alter the general gender bias.
Ms. Dikshit appreciated the rapid strides made by Indraprastha University in a short span of time in developing a brand name and providing quality education to students in and around the Capital. She also presented meritorious students with gold medals.
Delhi Lieutenant-Governor and University Chancellor Tejendra Khanna appreciated the initiatives taken and innovations brought in by the University over the years. He emphasised the need for professional and ethical commitment together with domain competence. The Chancellor gave away Ph.D. degrees.
Delivering the Convocation Address, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Director-General Samir K. Brahmachari spoke of the techniques and innovations developed by CSIR to improve the lot of the common man.
Prof. Brahmachari said Indian traditional scientific knowledge was gaining worldwide acceptance but the Indian academic world was not giving the same importance to it. He emphasised that all academic endeavours should be geared towards uplift of the poor.
IP University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dilip K. Bandyopadhyay gave away the M.Tech degrees and presented the annual report.
