Bringing Indian performance art, music and culture together under one roof for the benefit of students, non-government organisation Routes 2 Roots, in association with the Union Ministry of Culture, launched an interactive digital learning platform on Monday.

Named Virsa, the platform will give free digital learning classes on Indian culture, music and performing arts to children across India.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture and Tourism Mahesh Sharma inaugurated the programme along with kathak maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj and sitarist Pandit Devabrata Chaudhury.

The digital model will have periodic workshops and lectures in each genre. The lectures will be delivered by renowned artists like Pandit Birju Maharaj, violinist L. Subramaniam, singer Kavita Krishnamurthy, kathak danseuse Shovana Narayan, singer Shafqat Amanat Ali, actor Juhi Chawla and composer-guitarist Ehsaan Noorani.

Rakesh Gupta and Tina Vachani, the co- founders of Routes 2 Roots, said Virsa will change the way culture and performing arts are taught in schools across the country. Initially, schools in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, Bihar, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat will be equipped with Virsa.
