Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday said he had ordered an inquiry by the Education Department into the case of a Class IX student of a Delhi school committing suicide at her home in Noida on Tuesday.

After Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta raised the issue in the House, Mr. Sisodia told the Delhi Assembly that he had asked the Education Department to probe the matter, after the girl’s parents alleged in the FIR that she had been sexually harassed by two teachers.

Mr. Gupta had asked if the department would take any action against the school.

Mr. Sisodia said if the school was found guilty in any way, action would be taken. He said Education Department officials had visited the school and were told that the girl had received her report card on March 16.

She had a “compartment” in social science and science. Mr. Sisodia said it appeared that there was “academic pressure” on the girl.
