The inquest report on the death of a Tihar Central Jail inmate here says that the Head Warder and Warder of the ward concerned along with two inmates were involved in his beating which led to his death in February this year.

The jail authorities on Monday filed the report in the court of a Division Bench of the Delhi high Court comprising Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice Mukta Gupta. The Bench had at the last hearing asked the jail authorities to file the inquest report on the death of the inmate.

The report says the inmate, Sundar, was beaten up with “a blunt object”. The report prepared by a metropolitan magistrate after talking to the inmates of the ward further says the victim died of a heart attack and it was not a natural death.

Meanwhile, the Bench appointed an amicus curiae to assist the Court in the matter.

Sundar had died in a quarrel between him and two other inmates in the jail complex.

The Court has converted a letter written to Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily by a brother of the victim about the incident into a petition. The brother of the victim had written to the Minister after the jail authorities took no action on his complaint about the death of his brother in the quarrel. The Minister had sent the letter to Justice Lokur, the Acting Chief Justice.

The victim had died on February 10. His brother alleged that the Warder and the Deputy Warder of the ward in which the victim, Sundar, along with his other brother, Manoj, are lodged serving life imprisonment in a murder case were also involved in beating up Sundar with iron rods.
