Unidentified persons threw ink at senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan’s Sector 14 house here on Monday, a day after his tweet on Lord Krishna triggered a controversy.

Protest outside house

Soon after, members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP, started protesting outside Mr. Bhushan’s house and demanded an apology for hurting religious sentiments. They, however, did not claim responsibility for the incident.

The Noida police, meanwhile, have stepped up security for the lawyer-politician.

The incident took place around 12.30 p.m. when Mr. Bhushan was not at home. According to locals, the miscreants fled from the scene after throwing ink. “They threw ink at the name plate of the house, which bears the name of his father and former Union Law Minister Shanti Bhushan, and fled,” said a Sector 14 resident.

Mr. Bhushan’s domestic helps immediately called the police.

No case has been registered yet. “So far, we have not received any complaint from the family. We had already increased security after the tweet on Sunday. Mr Bhushan, in fact, had asked us to escort him till the Delhi-Noida border on Monday,” said Noida superintendent of police Dinesh Yadav.

The protesters, led by Chaman Awana, president of the BJYM’s Noida unit, have lodged a complaint against Mr. Bhushan. “Mr. Bhushan has hurt the sentiments of crores of people in India. He must tender an unconditional apology,” said Mr. Awana.

On Sunday, Mr. Bhushan tweeted that “Romeo loved just one lady, while Krishna was a legendary Eve teaser. Would Adityanath have the guts to call his vigilantes Anti-Krishna squads?”
