Supporting Anna Hazare's ongoing protest, doctors of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) organised a protest rally from Maulana Azad Medical College to Ramlila Maidan here on Monday. Medicos from Delhi and the National Capital Region participated in the rally.
“IMA has always supported any movements involved for the benefit of the nation. We completely support Mr. Hazare's movement against corruption and have also requested all our 1,700-plus branches to give total support to it in their area,” said IMA president Dr. Vinay Aggarwal.
“We have also requested all our State and local branches all over the country to hold protest rallies and support this movement of Mr. Hazare. We understand that only a strong Lokpal Bill can curb the menace of corruption,” added IMA secretary general Dr. D. R. Rai.
Protests acoss States
“Our branches in Bihar, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab have already organised massive protests rallies in their areas on this issue. IMA will organise more such protests on a regular basis and will use all its resources to get in touch with political leaders at various levels to request them to carry out every effort in their capacity to force the government to accept the just demands of Mr. Hazare in the interest of a stronger governance,” added Dr. Rai.
During their protest, the participating medicos carried banners and placards and shouted slogans in favour of Mr. Hazare. “We also distributed pamphlets in support of the movement and now call members of other professions to come forwards and extend their support to Mr. Hazare,” said Dr. Rai.
