: Several illegal industrial units in South Delhi were sealed recently when they were found releasing effluents that caused waterlogging in the area.
The Factory Licensing Department of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation sealed eight unauthorised washing and dyeing units in Meethapur on Wednesday, according to a statement released on Thursday.
The SDMC said that the units had been releasing a large amount of polluted water, inconveniencing residents.
Last week, SDMC Standing Committee Chairperson Radhey Shyam Sharma and Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel had conducted inspections after receiving complaints about water wastage, waterlogging, and pollution caused by the dyeing units in the area.
Mr. Sharma said that they found the dyeing plants releasing chemicals onto streets, the RO water purification and bottling units allowing waste water to flow out on roads, and borewells being misused.
“Though the borewells are not under our jurisdiction, we have initiated action against those allowing water and pollutants to flow out of their premises. We had sent notices to dozens of such units, and will be sealing them if they fail to act,” said Mr. Sharma.
