Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) here has sought an explanation from Yahoo for a server collapse during an online entrance test this past Saturday.
Yahoo was providing the server services for the online examination for face-to-face programmes in engineering and technology conducted by IGNOU on October 31.
However, the server collapsed during the exam and the candidates were unable to download all the questions for this multiple entry and multiple exit programme in engineering.
As many as 9,350 candidates were scheduled to appear in the exam across 80 centres throughout the country spread in five sessions.
“The server was not taking the number of hits generated during the exam. Through our project partner, the Chennai-based Sri Angala Parameshwari Education Trust (SAPET), we have placed a request to Yahoo seeking reasons as to why the server failed. We have also asked them to provide the server logs so that we know which all exam centres encountered a problem,” said the exam coordinator Shiv Kumar Vyas.
“We have asked them to submit the report within the shortest possible time,” he added.
IGNOU may now consider conducting the exam through OMR sheets, which has been the conventional method. However, the date and details for it are yet to be announced.
