Indira Gandhi National Open University's School of Performing and Visual Arts here is launching four new full-time Master's degree programmes to be conducted on its campus.
The programmes are Master of Performing Arts in Hindustani Classical Music, Master of Performing Arts in Bharatanatyam, Master of Performing Arts in Theatre Arts and Master of Fine Arts in Painting.
The classes for these programmes will be conducted by IGNOU faculty, academicians and experts.
The programme in Hindustani Classical Music will enable students to take up either Dhrupad or Dhamar. Students would also study papers on Management of Music Events and Sound and Acoustics which would help them take up a career related to music. Admission would be through an entrance test and audition for a maximum of 20 seats.
The Master of Performing Arts in Bharatanatyam is aimed at moulding professionals and academicians in the area of dance. The programme focuses on the areas of performance, choreography, technical production aspects and research. Admission to the programme would be through an entrance test where the practical and the theoretical aptitude of the student would be put to test. A minimum of six and a maximum of 15 students would be admitted.
The theatre course would impart training in acting, direction, and technical theatre. The course is designed to provide training in media through latest theatre research methodologies along with knowledge of theatre history. It also offers specialisations in design, direction and children's theatre. Students will have to appear in an entrance test and audition for admission the intake for which is 25 students.
The programme in painting is geared towards providing opportunities to students to identify and evolve their own style and medium at an advanced level and guide them towards becoming professional artists. The programme has a maximum intake of 20 students.
