India Air Force (IAF) Group Captain Arun Marwaha, who was arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell under the Official Secret Act (OSA) for providing secret information to alleged ISI agents, was sent to 14 days’ judicial custody by the Patiala House Courts here on Tuesday.

Mr. Marwaha, who was arrested on February 8, was sent to five-day police custody by the court.

During the custody, he was grilled by a four-member team of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

The investigators said that Mr. Marwaha revealed he used to communicate with alleged ISI agents through a dating app.

Chat history

The mobile application reportedly provides security to its user by automatically deleting the chat history after the conversation ends. the chat history cannot be accessed by security agencies as it is deleted from the server.

Mr. Marwaha had signed up for the premium membership of the application.

Avoid surveillance

“We suspect that exchange of pictures and chat conversations happened through the mobile app. The alleged ISI agents, posing as women, sent him friend requests. They later became friends and exchanged mobile numbers on Facebook. The alleged ISI agents suggested that the conversations be shifted to the dating app. This was done deliberately to avoid surveillance. The application also has a video chat feature,” said a police officer.

The officer added that they have also written to Facebook to provide details the two accounts in the name of women who befriended Mr. Marwaha.

Forensic reports

Facebook accounts created in the names of Kiran Randhwa and Mahima Patel were found deactivated just after Mr. Marwaha was arrested by the Delhi Police.

Meanwhile, the forensic examination report of his two mobile phones and laptop is still awaited.

The investigators added that the Group Captain is a skydiving expert.
