I am innocent, claims accused

Sarvjeet said that Jasleen was an AAP supporter and was falsely implicating him

The accused in the Tilak Nagar harassment case, who was out on bail on Tuesday, dismissed the allegations against him.

Sarvjeet Singh alias Sunny said that the complainant Jasleen Kaur was a supporter of Aam Aadmi Party and was falsely implicating him for gaining political mileage and fame.

Sarvjeet and his family have claimed that he only told her to leave the place upon which she began clicking his photo with her mobile phone and threatening police action while flaunting her political connections.

Kaur, a 20-year-old student of St. Stephen’s College, has accused Sarvjeet of passing lewd remarks at her at a busy traffic signal in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar on Sunday evening.

Kaur captured him on her mobile phone and approached the police after which the accused was arrested. She also took to Facebook to post his photograph and her version of the incident. The post went viral, garnering over 1.3 lakh shares in around 36 hours.

With Sarvjeet’s side of the story out in the open and the social media after Kaur now, she has hit back with another Facebook post shaming those who criticised her for her political affiliations.

The AAP too came out in her support and said that they stood for her because she was standing up against the harassment she faced and not for her political leanings.

“Even if she is with the party, how does it matter? It is silly that the accused is trying to give a political colour,” said an AAP leader. “Harassment and women safety aren’t restricted to any political party. It is sad that people are trying to turn it into AAP controversy,” the leader added.

On Monday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had tweeted about the incident. “Congratulate @jasleenkaur89 for her bravery. Girls of Delhi should follow her & speak up against such unacceptable acts. (sic)” Even Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal said that she will take up the issue.
