Out on bail after being jailed for molesting an 18-year-old girl, a man allegedly stabbed the girl to death and injured her mother at their residence in Welcome here on Friday. The accused has been arrested.

The victims are residents of Z-Block and had once been tenants of the accused, Ayub Akshar, in Kabootar Market. According to the police, Ayub – who was arrested in the molestation case in July – had come out on bail on Thursday evening.

The stabbings took place around 7-15 a.m. on Friday. Ayub entered the victim’s house when she was sleeping in her room. It is alleged that he stabbed her several times. Her mother also sustained a few injuries in a bid to save her, said the police.

“Hearing the commotion, family members and neighbours of the victims rushed to the spot. A call was made to the police who sent a team to the spot. The mother-daughter duo was taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital where the girl was declared brought dead.

Police said that Ayub attacked the girl to seek revenge. Before shifting to Z-Block, the victim had lived as a tenant in a house owned by the father of the accused. Ayub had been stalking the girl for the past few months but she refused to befriend him and lodged a complaint against him after he molested her near her home.

He was then arrested. This resulted in tension between the two families, forcing the tenants to shift to the new location.
