Hop-on hop-off bus service to start tomorrow

The hop-on hop-off bus service, which promises to offer the visitors of Commonwealth Games a “hassel free ride in exploring Delhi, will be launched tomorrow - six days ahead of the commencement of the mega event.

To be known as ‘Ho Ho’, the service being modelled on best of such facilities in European countries, will be launched by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit tomorrow which is also the international tourism day.

The hop-on hop-off bus service will ferry the visitors not only to the historical monuments, museums and other popular tourist destinations but also to authentic Indian restaurants and popular markets.

Officials said said monuments, museums, art galleries, gardens, shopping centres and tourist destinations will be on the route of HoHo and visitors can hop on and hop off at their pace.

The bus service will also take the visitors to popular eating joints.

The tourists will be able to spend as much time they want to spend at any particular place and go to the next destination as per their wish as buses will ply through the route continuously at an interval of 30 minutes.

The tours will be conducted in specially designed low-floor air-conditioned buses which will have trained guides besides other onboard facilities like digital video screen and GPS systems.

An official of Delhi Tourism department said the service is being designed to provide a complete experience of the city to a tourist.

The Tourism Department already has trained guides who will be deployed at historical monuments to offer the tourists relevant information.

The department is also offering a host of services on its website www.delhitourism.gov.in. Even before tourists set out for Delhi, they can download thematic city maps, information brochures and informative videos to plan their trip better.

Information such as type of hotel, booking services, Bed and Breakfast establishments, guest houses, transport and flight services, currency converter and weather updates besides detailed information on city’s heritage, must-see attractions and eateries are being made available at the click of a mouse.

Delhi is expected to receive over one lakh tourists during the Games to be held from October 3 to 14.
