Himachal Economic Survey pegs growth at 6.5 per cent

The Economic Survey presented on the eve of the budget in the Himachal Assembly on Tuesday has pegged the annual growth rate for 2014-15 at 6.5 per cent. The per capita income is also expected to cross the five-figure mark and is estimated at Rs 1,04,943 during the financial year 2014-15.

Presenting the survey, State Irrigation and Public Health Minister Vidya Stokes informed that the growth rate has improved by 0.3 per cent in comparison to last two years (from 6.2 to 6.5). Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, who also holds the Finance Portfolio and is expected to present the budget on Wednesday, was not present in the House on Tuesday.

The GSDP of State at current prices in 2013-14 increased to Rs 85,841 crore from Rs 76,259 crore in 2013-13 and as per advance estimates it is likely to be about Rs 95,587 crore in 2014-15.

The growth of the primary sector, which includes agriculture and allied services, forestry and mining, increased at the rate of 15.3 per cent, while the secondary and tertiary sectors grew by 2.6 per cent and 5.8 per cent respectively.
