Additional Solicitor-General Siddharth Luthra gave this information to a Division Bench of Justice N.V. Ramana and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw while making submission on a suo motu petition on the murder of Nido Tania, son of an Arunachal MLA, last month.
Mr. Luthra stated that the Delhi Police were trying to recruit people from the Northeast, but in the meantime had requested the armed forces units of the Centre to send Northeast personnel on deputation to the city police to address immediate their security concerns.Probe agency slammed
When the Bench asked Mr. Luthra why the Centre did not deploy people from the Northeast in its armed forces units in policing, he said a procedure has to be followed for this.
Counsel for an organisation of the Northeast people submitted that as people from this region were not interested in joining the city police on deputation, their direct recruitment was the only mechanism to increase their presence in it.
Pulling up the investigating agency for not recording the statements of the victim and his family members in a proper manner, the Bench directed it find out the root causes of racist attacks on the Northeast people in the Capital.
Tania was brutally thrashed by some shop-keepers when he retaliated on being mocked about his hairstyle in Lajpat Nagar market in South Delhi.
The police have registered a murder case in connection with the same.
