Water-logged roads and traffic jams returned to haunt Delhiites on Monday with heavy rain lashing the city.
According to the Meteorological Department, a total of 10.5 mm of rainfall was recorded between 8-30 a.m. and 5-30 p.m. on Monday.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi's central control room received 13 water-logging complaints till 3 p.m. In addition, seven complaints of tree falling and two complaints of fallen building parts were also received by the civic body. Seven people were injured when the roof of a building in Maidan Garhi area near Ambedkar Nagar collapsed because of the rain.
Areas affected by water-logging included Kamla Market, Wazirabad, Rajpur Road, Rani Jhansi Road, Mother Dairy flyover Pandav Nagar, Kesavpuram underpass, PVR Saket, Chhatarpur Extension, Jwala Hari underpass, Mangolpuri, Shivpuri and West Patel Nagar.
Meanwhile, traffic jams were reported from various locations across the Capital due to water-logging and flooding on several road stretches. Traffic was closed from C. Hexagon to Nizamuddin because of a fallen tree near SBM Zakir Hussain Marg crossing. However, it was opened later in the day after the removal of the tree.
According to the Delhi Traffic Police, traffic congestions were reported at Adhchini T-point, Moolchand towards Lodi Road, Aurobindo Marg, from Nanakpura towards Naraina due to water-logging under Dhaula Kuan flyover, Defence Colony flyover towards Lajpat Nagar , Moti Nagar flyover towards Punjabi Bag ,Ring Road and at Laxmi Nagar metro station, Vikas Marg.
Slow traffic movement was also reported from Khajuri to Wazirabad as a DTC bus has broken down at Wazirabad T-point.The maximum temperature on Monday was two degrees below normal at 32.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature settled one degree below normal at 25.4 degrees Celsius. For Tuesday, the weatherman has forecast a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to settle around 34 degrees and 25 degrees respectively.
