A Division Bench of the Delhi High Court will take up for hearing on Thursday an application by Vikas Yadav seeking interim bail to attend the marriage ceremony of his sister, Bharti Yadav, in November. Vikas Yadav is a convict in the Nitish Katara murder case.
The application came up for hearing on Wednesday before a Bench comprising Chief Justice A. P. Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar which marked it for hearing to the Division Bench comprising Justice Anil Kumar and Vipin Sanghi.
Earlier, counsel for Vikas Yadav submitted that the application be heard on an urgent basis as preparations for the marriage would begin on October 20.
Vikas has sought bail for three months.
According to the wedding card attached with the bail application, Bharti’s marriage will take place in the Capital on November 1.
Bharti was a key witness in the case. However, while giving her evidence in the trial court she had retracted her police statement. The court had recorded her statement in-camera.
A few months after the murder of Nitish Katara, son of a former IAS officer, Bharti had shifted to London to do some professional course.
Vikas Yadav and his cousin Vishal Yadav are at present serving life term in the case. A trial court had last year sentenced the two to life imprisonment, holding them guilty of kidnapping and later killing Nitish Katara because they were opposed to Bharti’s affair with him.
The High Court is seized of Vikas’s appeal against the trial court judgment.
