The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to interfere in the issue of seizure of e-rickshaws, which it had earlier banned on the Capital’s roads, by the police. It said the remedy should be sought before an appropriate forum.
A Division Bench comprising Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice Siddharth Mridul refused to entertain a petition which had sought directions for release of seized e-rickshaws to enable them to comply with the requirements under the amended Motor Vehicle Rules. The Court said it had not issued directions for their seizure.
Dismissing the petition as withdrawn, the Bench said it was not inclined to pass any order as it had already disposed the matter. It said a person aggrieved by an adverse order of the appropriate authorities could come to the Court at a later stage.
The petition had sought release of the battery-operated rickshaws for being presented before the authorities for the purpose of complying with the requirements under the amended rules. The Court had on September 9 this year held that its ban on plying of e-rickshaws on the roads of Delhi would continue as they were illegal as per the existing laws.
