The Delhi High Court has expressed concern over the slow pace of repairs of residential flats for police officers in Dwarka. It observed the policemen would not be able to perform their duties efficiently if not given proper accommodation.
During the hearing of a writ petition moved by a Delhi Police constable and others earlier this week, Justice Rajiv Shakdher of the High Court asked the Public Works Department to file an affidavit within three weeks indicating the time frame within which the repair and renovation of flats would be completed.
The Court also went through the minutes of about a dozen meetings of a panel set up to monitor and expedite the progress of repairs, held since June 10 last year, and said only 25 per cent of the work had been completed.
The presence of a representative of the PWD Secretary had no impact on the speed of the work which was expected to be completed fast, said the Court. The matter was posted for further hearing on February 10. Counsel for petitioners said the allotted flats were in a dilapidated condition and posed imminent danger to the life of the occupants.
